October Ordeal with Croatan Lodge!
Croatan Lodge #117, SR-7B’s easternmost member, held their Fall Ordeal event on October 15-17th, at Camp Boddie in Blounts Creek, NC. Much preparation occurred during the event, not only for the progress of the camp but for planning toward the future.
Primarily, the event served as an induction weekend to welcome Croatan Lodge candidates to the tenets of the Order of the Arrow: Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service. As the candidates worked in silence and deep reflection, they cleaned up the remnants of Camp Boddie’s summer camp for 2021, including moving tent pallets, packing up cots, and storing away outdoor equipment. Not only were Ordeal candidates present, but also Brotherhood candidates, those who wish to seal their membership in the Order. These individuals helped with staining and painting signs and fences as a part of Boddie’s beautification project.
Alongside the service, Croatan leadership began preparation for their next event, Fall Fellowship. While the schedule and events were being established, so was the event’s theme: Croatan Goes To The Movies, complete with a stylish new patch featuring 117’s totem, the deer. In addition, Croatan underwent the selection of personnel for the 2023 SR-7B Conclave, which Croatan will host at Camp Boddie. The Conclave Chair position was filled, and designs for 2023’s patch and theme were drafted.
Overall, Croatan Lodge #117 had a successful event, one that embodied the principles of the OA by welcoming new members with camaraderie, seeking higher honors of membership, and planning for the future through Fall Fellowship and Conclave discussion.
