2020 American Indian Affairs Seminar

by Jan 14, 2020Apensuwi

The 2020 SR-7B American Indian Affairs Seminar is coming up soon! Join us February 21st through 23rd at Camp Durant for a weekend dedicated to improving your skills in all areas of AIA. The weekend will begin on Friday Night, with a Southern Protocol Powwow and a discussion about Ceremonies lead by experienced arrowmen. On Saturday,  hone your skills as a craftsman, dancer, singer, or ceremonialist. These sessions are dedicated to each part of AIA, ranging from specific crafts, to overviews of dancing, singing, and inductions.

This year, we will also be holding an Expert Help session, in which, seasoned arrowmen will be on-call to help you with any ongoing projects you might have. You may have heard the phrase “It takes a village to raise a child.” We believe that the same is true for arrowmen involved in AIA. Experienced arrowmen are essential in preparing the new generations of dancers, singers, and ceremonialists. The purpose of this is to help prepare youth arrowmen who will be competing at Conclave and NOAC. Preparing arrowmen will better represent our Section and Lodges at a National Level.

At the inductions portion of the seminar, we will be teaching classes and holding discussions on all aspects of the induction process, from the Unit Election to the Journey to Brotherhood. This also includes ceremonies. This is an excellent opportunity for the induction leaders and ceremonialists from your lodge to come learn from an array of current and former NOAC instructors and evaluators. Any ceremonies team or individual ceremonialist will be able to sign up for a ceremony evaluation at the event. It will follow the same format we will be using for conclave and will be a good indicator of your current standing. For our adult advisers we will also be teaching an evaluators certification class. This class will follow the national standard for ceremony evaluation and teach you how the new conclave and NOAC evaluation system works. Every ceremonies coach or adviser should take advantage of this opportunity to help your team grow and develop.
