The Section Service Project: Conclave 2022

by Mar 10, 2022Apensuwi

At every Conclave, SR-7B is devoted to providing a service project that not only allows Arrowmen to serve others during their time spent over the weekend, but to also give back to the area where the event is held, directly supporting those living in the vicinity of the camp. This year, with Conclave held in Johnston County, NC, Service Chair Sam Crowder has announced 3 initiatives where attendees can help out and make a massive impact in the community local to Camp Tuscarora.

FOOD DRIVE: Coordinating with Smithfield Area Ministries, located in the county seat of Johnston County, SR-7B is once again asking Lodges to come together and bring as much canned food upon arrival to Conclave. Lodges will be judged based on a point system and the number of items they bring. What does the winner receive you may ask? This lucky lodge will receive a full-sized inflatable man for their keeping, which can be used at any lodge (or section) event in the future. NOTE: Non-perishable items will be preferred, refrigerated storage will not be provided for donations, so make sure to bring food/supplies that can withstand room temperature or higher conditions.

BOOK DRIVE: Section SR-7B is proud to announce a partnership with the Scholastic publishing company. They will be sending a multitude of educational supplies to Camp, where Arrowmen will assemble “reading kits” composed of a book, a bookbag, and a pencil. Every single one of these kits are being delivered to Four Oaks Elementary, located just minutes from Tuscarora. Over 800 kits are scheduled to be assembled for various grades, so just coming out and assembling one or two will make a big difference in getting this big task accomplished.

BLOOD DRIVE: Want to donate blood at Conclave? Anyone 17 or older can come and support those who are in need of this life-saving substance. Every pint donated = 3 lives saved, so come out and give if you can. A “blood bus” will be located in a central location in Camp. After answering a short questionnaire, you will be good to go. Free snacks and drinks are provided, and you may even get a t-shirt out of it, too! Remember to stay hydrated throughout the weekend if you have interest in donating.

SR-7B is proud to have a plethora of service opportunities for Arrowmen to engage in. Each has a short time commitment and will not stop you from enjoying other areas of camp. (But we promise, it’s always just as fun!) For any additional questions, reach out to Service Chair Sam Crowder at service@oae8.org.
