SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Conclave Cohort Model

by Dec 12, 2020Apensuwi

Brothers of SR-7B,

Due to the effects of COVID-19, Cardinal Conclave 2021, will look a bit different than most years but we are still committed to having a fun and meaningful event! During the event, we will be using a cohort model with 10 cohorts of 50 people, to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19. Delegates will remain in their separate cohorts throughout the weekend, camping together, eating together, and participating in program together. Delegates will be assigned to cohorts based on program interest rather than lodge. Given the limited capacity of the event, lodges will be responsible for determining who from their lodge will attend Conclave. Registering for Conclave with the Section at oae8.org/conclave does not guarantee attendance, however, registration is necessary to be considered by your lodge to attend. Each lodge will only be able to send an allotted number of delegates to Conclave. Individuals who register with the Section but are not selected by their lodge to attend will receive a refund.

The deadline to register for Conclave with the Section is 11:00 p.m. on March 14th, 2021. Lodge leaders will then have until March 21st to indicate to the Section which individuals from their lodge will fill their allotted number of slots. Arrowmen should direct any questions about their lodge’s selection process to their lodge leadership as it is up to the lodge to decide how to allocate these spots.

Delegates will indicate their top 5 preferences for program areas when they register with the Section and the section leadership will create cohorts of 50 delegates based on their program preferences. Each cohort will participate in 2 different program areas, with the exception of the AIA and ICE program areas, which will last all day. The available program areas are as follows (this information is also available when registering on the section website):

  • American Indian Affairs

All AIA competitions will take place in this program area, as well as AIA training.

  • Inductions and Ceremonies

In-depth inductions and ceremonies training will be offered in this program area, including the new national Polestar: Induction Leadership Training. Prepare for the early adoption of new national inductions and ceremonies concepts and resources.

  • “A Day on the Lake”

This program will provide Arrowmen with the opportunity to spend the day having fun and relaxing on Lake Katherine. They will spend their time enjoying various boating activities such as sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and stand up paddleboarding.

  • SR-7B Shooting Sports

This program will include classic shooting sports such as archery, rifle, and shotgun, as well as more unconventional shooting sports such as blackpowder.

  • “Cardinal COPE & Climbing”

Reach new heights by participating in activities such as low-cope, high-cope, climbing, and Ziplining.

  • “Cardinal Chef”

Try your hand at some new recipes with the opportunity to cook and taste a variety of dutch oven, open-fire, and camp stove dishes.

  • “Section Scientists”

Experiment, build, and learn as you participate in science and technology activities, such as robotics, catapults, rockets, and more.

  • “Section Spartan”

“A Scout is physically fit.” Participate in activities such as the Section Spartan Race, Yoga, and Martial Arts. This area will focus on a mix of low and high impact activities according to skill/comfort level. All skill and fitness levels are welcome.

  • “Cardinal Crafts”

Learn crafts such as basketry, candle dipping, paracord bracelets and more, while making your own items to take home with you.

  • “Wilderness Expedition”

This program will be designed for the Arrowman that wants adventure and seeks to become a true survivalist. Participants will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills including making a knife, fire building, wilderness cooking, and other bushcraft style activities.

We recognize there are still numerous other questions about Conclave 2021 and appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to find answers. Please feel free to reach out to me at chief@oae8.org if you have any questions.

Yours in Service,
